"What Women Want" is a romantic comedy starring Mel Gibson as a man who doesn't quite know what to make of his newfound powers. For the first time in his life, he becomes unglued. He's also stunned to find out that not only is he not God's gift to women, but every woman in his life thinks he's pretty much of a jerk.
But slowly, Nick begins to realize that he can use this special gift to his advantage ... personally and professionally.
"I'm gonna learn so much about being a woman, they're gonna make me an honorary chick," he says slyly.
And who better to apply his distinctive ability to than Darcy McGuire, his beautiful, talented and unsuspecting new boss, played by Helen Hunt in her first romantic comedy since her Academy Award®-winning performance in "As Good As It Gets."
In a bid to bring new business to the ad agency from the untapped women's market, Darcy is hired as its creative director ... a job Nick thought should and would be his. Nick is clearly not too thrilled to work side-by-side with this recently divorced and reputed "man-eater," despite her great pair of legs.
So, Nick schemes to use his special powers, hearing her thoughts to undermine her and get the job he was destined to have.
But Darcy's no pushover. She knows of Nick's chauvinistic reputation and his star status at the agency. So she treads lightly, trying to create a collegial atmosphere, unaware that Nick is sabotag ing her.
The chemistry between Nick and Darcy is undeniable; the sparks, electric as they battle between the urges of their careers and those of their hearts.
Nick Marshall's life had always been about writing ad campaigns geared for men — beer, sports teams and babes in bikinis. Then, after hours, he romanced these bikini babes with his rakish style and charm. But in terms of really understanding women, he couldn't get to first base.
Then, everything changes when he hears women's inner thoughts. Once he embraces his new powers, his evolution begins.
"'What Women Want' reminds me of the romantic comedies of the 1930s and 1940s," Gibson says.
