They needed a common cause… Her heroic stand gave them one.
Rosa McCauley Parks was raised in the Deep South at a time when it seemed that only white people were created equal. But even at an early age, she refused to believe that she was inferior to anyone.
Following her humiliation at being denied voter registration, Rosa goes to work as a secretary for the NAACP. Years later, in 1955, she creates the spark that ignites the modern Civil Rights Movement. After a long day's work, a tired Rosa refuses to comply with a bus driver who insists she surrender her seat to a White woman. The resulting uproar in the South throws Rosa and her family into the Ku Klux Klan's ring of hatred, but also into the NAACP's limelight.
This compelling true story demonstrates the power of a single act of defiance can have over an ancient tradition of injustice.
