Ever since he was a child, WILLIAM MALONE (Director) has been fascinated with sci-fi and fantasy films; he shot his own 8mm versions of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and This Island Earth, for which he also designed the costumes, when he was fourteen.
He was 19 when he went to Los Angeles to attend UCLA cinema lectures and paid for his studies by drawing and modeling monster masks for Don Post’s FX studio. One of his sculptures was the classic Michael Myers Halloween mask which appeared in the first film. Early in the 80s, he sold his car and mortgaged his house to raise the $80,000 he needed to shoot his first feature film, Scared to Death, which reached #16 on the Box Office charts. Three years later, he directed Klaus Kinski in Creature, which gave fans a first taste of his abilities as director and his technique of instilling suspense and terror.
The next fourteen years were devoted to television where he directed, among others, the cult series Tales from the Crypt, Freddy’s Nightmares, Perversions of Science and more recently, Honey, I Shrunk the Kids: The Series, Dream On,Law and Order, and The Big Easy. In 1999, Malone came back to Hollywood with the blockbuster success House on Haunted Hill, a new version of William Castle’s classic, casting Geoffrey Rush, Famke Janssen and Jeffrey Combs.
Malone is also a film historian and avid collector of movie memorabilia. Among his film items are props from Alien (1979) and the original Robby the Robot from MGM’s classic Forbidden Planet (1956).
