Bruce Simmons (Dylan McDermott), a double whammy failure in both writing and real estate, is booted out of his apartment and sets up camp in an unsold mansion which houses a secret to a family slaughter. Simmons' imagination begins to run wild, conflating the fantasy of the murder -- of re-enacting the murder in writing -- with reality. He is soon unable to discern the two worlds, as the two worlds themselves enmesh into psychoses and terror.
