Genre: Drama, Urban, School / Campus, Culture Clash
Tagline: The first mistake this pretty young teacher made was to get off the bus. The second was to walk into Calvin Coolidge High School for the first time. The third was to fall in love with it.
Plot: The forerunner to such films LEAN ON ME and STAND AND DELIVER, this hilarious, heartwarming tale follows the efforts of an idealistic young teacher (Sandy Dennis) hired to teach English to inner-city high school students. Soon she finds herself going head to head with the administration in order to better educate her students. Dennis and her kids form the core of this film that explores with sympathy and humor the issues that hobble the American public school system and champions the teachers who throw themselves on the line every day they go to work. Based on Bel Kaufman's best selling novel.
