Richard Harris's play STEPPING OUT premiered in London at the Duke of York's Theatre on September 25, 1984, and ran there for more than 1,000 performances, winning the Evening Standard Comedy of the Year Award. The original stage version starred Ann Gabrielle and Sue Scott-Davison. The play was also produced in the Asia, Australia, South Africa, continental Europe and the United States. Tommy Tune directed the New York production, where Richard Harris made his Broadway debut. In the film version of the play, the setting was changed from a London church hall to a community center in Buffalo, New York.
