Liza Minnelli stars in this enlightening song and dance gala about growing old but staying young inside. Mavis (Minnelli) signs up to teach tap dancing at a church, but when she’s bombarded with a clumsy group of problem-ridden enrollees, she realizes she’s in for more than she bargained for. As Mavis and her students rehearse for the big year-end recital, they confess to their frustrations of womanhood, bond together and are transformed into a formidable dance troupe.
Director Lewis Gilbert brilliantly brings Richard Harris’s musical STEPPING OUT from the stage to the big screen. Gilbert, who formerly directed British classics such as ALFIE, YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE, and FRIENDS, makes a successful leap into the musical genre. His knowledge of cinematography and storytelling make STEPPING OUT an unforgettable film which will hypnotize viewers and leave their feet tapping.
