Plot: SECOND STRING tells the inspiring story of a pro football coach who learns that relief can arrive in the most unlikely of forms. Coach Dichter (Jon Voight) has led his stampeding Buffalo Bulls into the playoffs. But when star quarterback Doug Flutie (played by Flutie) is sidelined with food poisoning, Dichter is forced to lean on reserve Dan Heller (Gil Bellows), who has recently spent more time selling insurance than throwing a football. Goaded on by his wife (Teri Polo) and best friend (Richard T. Jones), Dan makes a believer out of everyone on the field, including his stubborn coach.
