Trivia from Fantasia/2000 (1999)
1
The new FANTASIA stands as a worthy successor to the original Disney classic, with a broad range of animation styles, using both traditional and computer-based techniques. With a running time of only seventy-five minutes (dictated by the IMAX format) the film flies by, never feeling ponderous or pretentious. While some of the segments are only mildly interesting, the majority are magical and fun, most notably the scene of majestically floating whales set to Respighi's "Pines of Rome" and Donald Duck doing his best on Noah's Ark. Only the live-action introductions to each piece with various actors and comedians are unneeded, distracting the viewer from the animation. Best of all, FANTASIA 2000 allows the Disney animators to stretch their muscles and experiment with new material, while only rarely sinking into unnecessary cuteness.Theatrical release: December 31, 1999 (IMAX).
