Mark Addy in Order, The (2003)

MARK ADDY (Thomas) can currently be seen in the CBS comedy “Still Standing” opposite Jami Gertz. Addy and Gertz star as parents of a blue collar family in Chicago.

On the big screen, Addy was seen in “The Time Machine” for Dreamworks and Warner Brothers. The movie, written by John Logan, was a new screen adaptation of H.G. Wells' classic time-travel novel. Directed by Simon Wells (“The Prince of Egypt”), the great-grandson of H.G. Wells, the movie also starred Guy Pearce and tells the story of an inventor (Pearce) who builds a machine that allows him to travel 800,000 years into the future. Addy starred as the inventor's best friend and fellow scientist.

In 2001, Addy was seen in Brian Helgeland's “A Knight's Tale.” Heath Ledger starred as a peasant squire who took up the identity of his master when the Knight suffered an untimely demise. Addy played Roland, a squire who helps his new master prepare for the World Jousting Championship.

In 1997, Fox Searchlight's “The Full Monty” was the unexpected box office hit of the summer. Addy starred as Dave Althorpe, one of six unemployed steel workers, who are so inspired by the success of Chippendale's dancers that they form a male striptease act in their hometown of Sheffield, England. The movie received an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture and a SAG Award™ for Outstanding Performance by a Cast.

Other feature credits include “Down To Earth,” “The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas” and “Jack Frost,” as well as the independent films “The Last Yellow” and “The Announcement.”

Addy was born and currently resides in the city of York in Northern England. He started working at the age of 15, as a stagehand at the York Theatre Royal. Addy trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London and has worked extensively in theatres throughout England including the Hull Truck Theatre Company and Royal National Theatre with such directors as Richard Eyre, Howard Davies, Nicholas Hytner, Alan Ayckbourn, John Godber and Jude Kelly.

His television credits include a number of British television series, including “The Ritz,” “A Very Peculiar Practice,” “Between the Lines,” “Band of Gold,” “The Heart Surgeon,” “Heart beat,” “Peak Practice,” “Sunnyside Farm,” the BBC comedy “The Thin Blue Line” with Rowan Atkinson (Mr. Bean) and the forthcoming sitcom “Too Much Sun.”
