1
Athos: The next time we meet one of us will die!

Louis: D'Artagnan, I am not angry with you. I knew you would leave me to them, and so you have. Lay down your sword and I will not punish you. I will let you retire in peace, and I will give your friends a swift execution, if you surrender NOW!
Aramis: Perhaps you should take his offer. We're dead anyway.
Porthos: He's right, D'Artagnan.
Phillippe: Wait. Bargain me to Louis for all your lives. You've done your best. Please let me go.
D'Artagnan: No, I cannot do it. Even if I could give up my king, I could never give up my son.
[they all look at him, thunderstruck]
Phillippe: Your son?
D'Artagnan: I loved your mother. I love her still. You are my son. I never knew you existed. And I never felt pride as a father... until this moment.

Aramis: [D'artagnan and Athos enter at different doors to the tomb where Aramis and Porthos are] The secrecy is regretable but necessary. Please, sit. When we were young men, and we saw injustice, we fought it.
D'Artagnan: Now we know that some problems cannot be solved with a sword.
Athos: And some can't be settled without one.
Aramis: Here, is the problem at hand. The Jesuits oppose Louis' wars, and the starvation that results. So, Louis has ordered me to discover the true identity of the general of the order of Jesuits, and to kill him.
Porthos: You should let the secret general worry about that.
Aramis: The problem is that, I am he. I am the general of the order of Jesuits.
Athos: What do you propose to do?
Aramis: Replace the king.
D'Artagnan: I cannot listen to this.
Athos: I am with you.
Porthos: So am I.
D'Artagnan: No.
Aramis: I need you. One for all, all for one.
D'Artagnan: You cannot ask me to betray my king. I have sworn an oath.
Athos: When the king is dishonourable you are removed from your oath of honour.
D'Artagnan: An oath is an oath precisely because it cannot BE removed!
Athos: Why do you follow him, Dartagnan? What we fought for is greater than king, or rank, or reward! What do you fight for now?
D'Artagnan: I fight for the belief that everyone can be better! Even Louis.
Athos: [turns to Aramis] What ever the plan, I am with you.
[to D'artagnan]
Athos: The next time we meet, one of us will die.
Porthos: [Athos leaves and D'artagnan heads for the door] Athos, wait.
Aramis: D'artagnan. Even were I not a priest I could see your heart carries a secret burden. And that it is hurting you to bear it alone.
D'Artagnan: I cannot betray, my king. I would defend him with my life.
Aramis: Then God go with you, for none of us shall.

4
Athos: You have the heart of a king.

5
D'Artagnan: Even if I could give up my king, I could never give up... my son.

6
Athos: What is Porthos doing?
Aramis: Walking into the barn naked, or so it would seem.
Athos: But what is he doing?
Aramis: About to hang himself I should think, he's been threatening to do it for months.
Athos: Hang himself?

7
Aramis: The King has ordered me to seek out the secret general of the Jesuits and kill him.
Porthos: You should let the secret general worry about that.
Aramis: Therein is the problem. I am he. I am the general of the order of Jesuits.

8
Phillippe: I've worn this mask so long I don't feel safe without it.

9
Aramis: If Porthos is determined to end his life, he's bound to seek the opportunity, isn't he?

10
Porthos: Aramis, is this the way to hell?
Aramis: Hell may be our destination, but not this trip.

11
King Louis XIV: It is good that you watch me, D'Artagnan, but I fear you watch me too closely.

12
Aramis: You grow fond of him. That is good.

13
D'Artagnan: No. If anyone sees... it is death.
Queen Anne: If I don't kiss you, I'll die anyway.

14
Porthos: That was easy.
Athos: This is a jail. It's easy to get in, the problems will come when we want to get out.

15
Phillippe: Put this man where no-one will hear his insanity. Let him be fed by a deaf-mute but feed him well.

16
Phillippe: You were the one in the mask.

17
Aramis: Why are you so glum?
Porthos: I expected action. There was no fighting, there was no killing. I was useless.
Aramis: Porthos, I grow tired of this attitude. You're surrounded by beauty, by intrigue, by danger. What more can a man want? The robins are singing, the pigeons are cooing. Can't you listen to their song?

18
Lt. Andre: All my life, all I have ever wanted was to be him.

19
Athos: You came to restrain me?
D'Artagnan: I came to give you hope.

20
[the Four Musketeers and Phillipe are trapped by riflemen at the other end of the hallway]
Aramis: D'Artagnan... They're young Musketeers. They've been weaned on our legends. They revere us. It is an advantage.
Porthos: Yes. Why don't we charge them?
D'Artagnan: I trained these men. They will fight to the death. But if we must die - if WE must die - let it be like this.
[He draws his sword and points it at the floor. Aramis, Porthos, and Athos, join their swords with his]
Athos: One for all. All for one.

21
[as the Four Musketeers and Phillipe charge]
Louis: Shoot!
Lt. Andre: Magnificent valor...

22
Queen Anne: Aramis!
Aramis: I have come to ask whether you believe that just as one lie can destroy a life, so one truth can make it whole again.
Queen Anne: I have prayed every day for such a miracle.

23
[Athos and Aramis hear Porthos scream]
Athos: What happened?
Porthos: Kidney stones. It hurts when I piss. It hurts when I shit. I'm just a fat old fart with nothing to live for anymore. I'm going to hang myself, as soon as I'm sober.

24
Athos: No, wait, do not hold your goblet that way. With a king it is so.
[He shows him, pinching the goblet between thumb and forefinger]
Athos: It is not to be dainty. Servants have touched the King's goblet, so he will touch it as little as possible.
[Phillippe tries it and the goblet slips from his fingers, crashing onto his plate and spilling onto everything]
Phillippe: I am so sorry! Forgive me, I...
Athos: No! Do not be sorry! Never be sorry! The King cares for nothing and for no one! There are no mistakes when you are King! What you do is right for every person! A King has contempt for everyone!
Phillippe: Is that the kind of king you wish me to be? Or do you say this because of your son?
[Athos is silent, he shoves back from the table and turns away]
Phillippe: Forgive me, I would never presume...
Athos: I am not... I am not angry with you. Do you understand? Good. Of course we wish you to be a good king. But first you must pass as Louis, and Louis is cold and cruel. The eyes of this King say that all he cares about is himself. You eyes ask too much. You shouldn't care about me...
[his voice breaks]
Athos: You mustn't ask about my son...
[He leaves the room, weeping]

25
Athos: It has everything to do with it. The king is a dog. A dog and a coward.

26
Aramis: When I discover the identity of this jesuit rebel, I will kill both him and the man who told me.

27
Athos: You're the traitor.

28
Louis: You're the new chief advisor. Execute him for distributing rotten food.

29
Louis: Of all the wonders I have seen, I've never looked upon anything as beautiful as you.

30
[a rioting crowd throws rotten food at D'Artagnan; he draws his sword and slashes the fruit in mid-air, then skewers a tomato. The crowd is awed into silence. He bites the tomato, then grimaces and spits it out]
D'Artagnan: You are right. It is rotten. I will speak to the King myself. You have my word.

31
[Porthos brings three wenches to Aramis' apartment, but they find him at prayer]
Porthos: Sorry, my dears. You would have enjoyed it too. He's hung like a donkey.
Wench: So are you.
Porthos: Really? He's been asleep for so long, I've forgotten about him.

32
Lt. Andre: [after Louis has killed D'Artagnan] All my life, all I ever wanted to be... was him.

33
Aramis: I have prayed every day for forgiveness. But now I realize that forgiveness must come from you before it can come from God.

34
Louis: You think my affairs are empty...
D'Artagnan: I think that it is possible for one man to love one woman all his life and be the better for it, yes.

35
Louis: D'Artagnan, you will hunt down Porthos, Athos, and Aramis, and bring me their heads, or I will have yours. And as for you, my brother, back to the prison you will go, and into the mask you hate. Wear it 'til you love it! And die in it.

36
Louis: The next time there are rioters, shoot them.

37
D'Artagnan: Anne, to love you is treason against France. But not to love you is treason against my heart.

38
D'Artagnan: You are constantly surrounded by beautiful women. Do you love any of them?
Louis: Quite frequently, actually.

39
Aramis: We are offering you the chance to be King.
Phillippe: No, you are offering me the chance to pretend to be King.

40
Aramis: You are surrounded by beauty, by intrigue, by danger, what more can a man want?

41
D'Artagnan: Your people are most anxious to love you but they are eating rotten food and frequently none at all.

42
King Louis XIV: Riots? But Paris is the most beautiful city in the world. Why would my people feel anything but pride and contentment?

43
King Louis XIV: There is more of me to love than a crown.

44
Athos: What gives you the right to judge me, to play God with the lives of others? Is it because you're so much holier than everyone else?
Aramis: Well yes, there is that. But also because I'm more intelligent than anybody else.

45
D'Artagnan: Anne, I know that to love you is a treason against France, but not to love you is a treason against my heart.
Queen Anne: Then we will both die traitors, D'Artagnan.

46
Porthos: I'd rather die covered in blood than an old man lying in my own piss.

47
Phillippe: I wear the mask. It does not wear me.

48
Aramis: Sometimes there are more important things in life than a good pair of tits.
Porthos: Really? If you can name me one thing that is more sublime than the feel of a plump, pink nipple between my lips, I'll build you a new cathedral.

49
King Louis XIV: Never underestimate the Dutch!

50
King Louis XIV: I may be a young king, but I am king!
