Tagline: He was a centerfold who revealed everything...but the truth.
Plot: An uproarious account of the exploits of Dirk Shafer, a gay man who ended up becoming "Playgirl's" Man of the Year. After the magazine's editors picked his picture out of the pile, Shafer spent a year pretending to be straight during a promotional tour that made him an object of desire for thousands of women throughout the country. As part of his duties, Shafer appeared on various interview shows and agreed to go on a magazine-sponsored dream date with one Playgirl reader. The act led to various -- often hilarious -- complications. Among his toughest obstacles was convincing his lover to play the part of his "roommate" and not let anybody else know about the true nature of their relationship. The film, written and directed by Shafer himself, combines re-enactments of the comic highlights of the promotional tour with mock interviews of his family and friends. Also included is actual footage of him on a variety of talk shows -- among them Jenny Jones, Phil Donahue, and Joan Rivers. All were fooled by the charade.
