Sam Elliott (We Were Soldiers) gives a star-making performance as Rick Carlson, a lifeguard in his 30s who is grappling with what to do with his life. Preparing for another busy summer on a stretch of Southern California beach with his youthful, rookie partner (Parker Stevenson), an aging Rick is forced to re-examine his career choice after he attends his high-school reunion. Anne Archer (Fatal Attraction), his now-divorced former sweetheart; and Kathleen Quinlan (Apollo 12), an infatuated teenager, co-star in this poignant character study set amidst the surf, sand and sun of one memorable California summer.
