Genre: Drama, Melodrama, Coming Of Age, Marriage, Doctor
Plot: A fine cinematic version of Robert Anderson's semi-autobiographical stage play about a middle-aged widower, played by Hackman, who is still trying to win the approval of his distant father. A bleak but believable turn of events forces him to choose between moving far away to marry the woman he loves or staying to care for the parental curmudgeon. Many will relate to this family drama which was adapted for the screen by Anderson.
