Felix (Robert Mitchum) and Tony (Jack Lemmon) are old friends and business partners involved in a Caribbean smuggling operation. But when a beautiful woman named Irena (Rita Hayworth) creates a rift between the buddies, jealous Felix double-crosses Tony, leaving him in a fix. In a flubbed attempt at subterfuge, Tony gets caught in deadly position when two large vessels collide. Fortunately, Felix realizes he can't just throw his longtime pal overboard, and he makes one last-ditch effort to save him.
