Plot: Collette Burson's clever debut film turns the "teensploitation" genre (AMERICAN PIE, PORKY'S) on its head by presenting the quest for teenage kicks from the female perspective. Bonnie Root (IN THE WEEDS) recalls Molly Ringwald's role in SIXTEEN CANDLES as Stream Hodsell--a smart, slightly sullen senior at an elite New York City prep school who desperately wants to join the ranks of the sexually satisfied. Relying on the misguided wisdom of her friends Jenny (Gabby Hoffman, ALL I WANNA DO) and Nell (Tricia Vessey, GHOST DOG), Stream embarks upon the odyssey for the "Big O." Stream hooks up with the ultra-popular Chad (newcomer James Roday as the archetypal self-obsessed rich jerk) but her fantastic voyage ultimately leads her to the sweet and shy aspiring rebel Henry (Ryan Reynolds, DICK). In addition to a strong young cast, COMING SOON boasts supporting performances by Spalding Gray (GRAY'S ANATOMY) as a machiavellian college admissions guru, Mia Farrow (RECKLESS) as Stream's hilarious New Age mother, and Peter Bogdanovich (LAST PICTURE SHOW) as a pretentious ceramics artist. Under Burson's sensitive, witty direction, this film offers a frank, funny take on female sexuality, and subversively champions a gal's right to have fun without pandering to sexist stereotypes or cliches.
