Plot: Marie Davenport, wife of Dr. Alex Davenport, is having an affair. Daniel, her lover, urges her to leave her husband so that they can build a life together, rather than having only fleeting afternoons. After a long internal debate, Marie agrees to leave her husband, but as soon as she has mustered the courage to tell him, he is killed in a boating accident. In a set of mysterious circumstances, the morgue "loses" Alex's body; Marie comes to believe that he is still alive somewhere, and that possibility gives her the chance to reflect on her marital relationship, and to choose between the two men once again.
