At the age of 18, LEELEE SOBIESKI (Ruby) has become the breakout actress of the past year. Sobieski appeared as a young nymphet opposite Tom Cruise in director Stanley Kubrick's Eves Wide Shut. She has also starred with rave reviews opposite Drew Barrymore in Fox 2000's Never Been Kissed and played the lead in the Merchant-Ivory production A Soldier 's Daughter Never Cries, which called for Sobieski to exercise her fluent French.
Sobieski garnered both a Golden Globe and an Emmy nomination for her portrayal of the legendary Joan of Arc in the top-rated $20 million CBS mini-series. The film was shot entirely on location in the Czech Republic.
Sobieski recently completed the miniseries "Uprising" for acclaimed feature director Jon Avnet, shot on location in Slovakia and slated to air during NBC's November Sweeps. She also spent part of the summer in Paris filming the French- language feature L'Idole.
She was most recently seen starring in director Mark Piznarski's romantic drama Here on Earth. Sobieski immediately segued into the Fox thriller Joy Ride for director John Dahl (The Last Seduction), which will hit theaters October 5. Also looming ahead for Sobieski is the November 2 release of My First Mister, opposite Albert Brooks, which opened this year's Sundance Film Festival.
Sobieski was discovered by a casting director who suggested she try acting after spotting her in her New York City school cafeteria. Shortly thereafter, she landed starring roles in the teleflims "Reunion," with Mario Thomas and Peter Strauss, and "A Horse for Danny," with Robert Urich. The series "Charlie Grace" soon followed, in which she portrayed Mark Harmon's daughter. Sobieski's additional television credits include "FX," "Grace Under Fire" and "Home Court."
Her feature film debut featured Sobieski as Martin Short's daughter in the Tim Allen starrer Jungle 2 Jungle for Disney. She also starred opposite Elijah Wood in the action-thriller Deep Impact for Paramount/DreamWorks SKG.
