Glenn Close in Stepford Wives, The (2004)

GLENN CLOSE portrays Claire Wellington, the leading lady in Stepford society, who takes Joanna Eberhart under her wing. A distinguished actress who has received critical and audience acclaim for her work in stage, film and television, Close made her Broadway debut in “Love for Love” in 1974. In 1980, she received a Tony nomination for her role in the Broadway musical “Barnum” and has subsequently won three Tony Awards for performances in “The Real Thing,”

“Death and the Maiden” and “Sunset Boulevard.” Her additional theater credits include “The Singular Life of Albert Nobbs,” “Uncommon Women and Others,” “Uncle Vanya,” “Rules of the Game,” “King Lear” and “The Rose Tattoo” among others. In 2002, she appeared as Blanche DuBois in Trevor Nunn’s production of “A Streetcar Named Desire,” at London’s National Theater.

Close has been honored with five Academy Award® nominations: Best Supporting nominations for “The World According to Garp,” “The Big Chill” and “The Natural”; and Best Actress for “Fatal Attraction” and “Dangerous Liaisons.”

Close’s numerous film credits include “Reversal of Fortune.” "The House of the Spirits,” “The Paper,” “Mars Attacks!” “Air Force One,” “Cookie’s Fortune," "Immediate Family,” “The Safety of Objects,” “101 Dalmatians” followed by its sequel “102 Dalmatians” and “Le Divorce.” Her next upcoming film is “Heights,” for director Chris Terrio.

On television, Close served as executive producer and won an Emmy Award for her 1995 performance as Col. Margarethe Cammermeyer in “Serving in Silence,” which also garnered a Peabody Award. She has received six additional Emmy nominations for roles in the telefilms “In the Gloaming,” “Something About Amelia,” “Sarah, Plain and Tall,” “Skylark” (the second telefilm in the Sarah trilogy, which she also executive produced), as well as for a guest-starring role in the comedy series “Will & Grace.” Other television starring/executive producer credits include “South Pacific” and “The Ballad of Lucy Whipple.” She executive produced “Journey” and “Baby,” both for Hallmark Hall of Fame. Close served as executive producer for “Broken Hearts, Broken Homes,” and as associate producer on the documentary “Do You Mean There Are Still Real Cowboys?” On television, Close can be seen in “The Lion in Winter,” for Showtime/Hallmark Entertainment, and in HBO’s “Strip Search,” directed by Sidney Lumet.
