Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis had their first star billing in this hilarious song and gag-filled comedy. The comic couple play Puccinelli and Korwin -- pals who join the army and get into a load of trouble on a military training base. While Puccinelli becomes a first sergeant, his buddy can't rise above the status of private because of his constant bumbling.
Amid the clowning, Puccinelli tries to win over a beautiful young woman named Helen.
The film's funny highlights include a sequence involving a non-cooperative soda machine, Jerry Lewis performing "The Navy Gets the Gravy But the Army Gets the Beans," and the team's impersonation of the Bing Crosby-Barry Fitzgerald characters from the classic film "Going My Way."

The Comedy Classic That Set The Standard For Martin & Lewis!
Although Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis had appeared on the silver screen prior to At War with the Army, this film marks their debut in starring roles and sets the pattern for subsequent Martin & Lewis vehicles.
Alvin Korwin (Lewis) and Vic Puccinelli (Martin) are best friends who join the Army during World War II. Alvin, a hopeless screw-up who can't even operate a soda machine properly, falls into one zany mishap after another while at training camp. Vic, on the other hand, is a self-assured ladies man who is quickly promoted to sergeant, becoming Alvin's overbearing superior. Packed with side splitting slapstick comedy, madcap sight gags, and romantic crooning, this is Martin and Lewis at their best!

This is the movie that made Dean Martin & Jerry Lewis famous, their first starring feature.
This comedy at its best when Dean and Jerry, two song and dance men, join the army.
Dean is a sergeant who wants to be sent to Europe to fight, and Jerry is a goo-off PFC who can not stay out of trouble.
Unforgettable scenes of Jerry in drag at the USO and, of course, the barracks Coke machine that thinks it is one-armed bandit.
This is a wonderfully entertaining film that is filled with laughter and fun.

The first starring vehicle for Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis, At War With the Army features Martin as the smooth, confident ladies man and Lewis as the bumbling, inept dolt who wreaks havoc everywhere he goes. As Martin bursts into song, Lewis struggles to understand the workings of a Coke machine, successfully creating a character pattern for Lewis & Martin movies. Lewis is spectacular singing "The Navy Gets the Gravy But the Army Gets the Beans", and is at his slapstick best in this musical comedy set in a WWII army training camp. Lewis is a hopeless private and Martin an overbearing First Sergeant-the two were raised in the same neighborhood before enlisting, and now they find themselves dealing with a loudmouth drill instructor, a sly supply sergeant, a hen-pecked company commander, and a battalion of other zany military characters.

The Comedy Classic That Shot Martin and Lewis to Stardom
After co-staring as comedy relief in My Friend Irma and My Friend Irma Goes West, the legendary team of Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis had their first lead roles in this hilarious service farce that sealed their success. You'll see why when the boys wind up as army recruits Sgt. Victor Puccinelli (Martin) and PFC Alvin Korwin (Lewis) in the most disorganized unit into the armed forces, and Lorwin tries to get home to see his new baby. Dino sings and romances the girls, Jerry serenades Sgt. McVey (Mike Kellin) in drag, and both give a dead-on impersonation of Bing Crosby and Barry Fitzgerald from Going My Way in the company's talent show. With director Hal Walker (who also led the boys through their next two films, That's My Boy and Sailor Beware) firmly in command, this 1950 classic helped put them among the biggest boxoffice draws in history.
