Plot: A young man begins an obsessive search for his girlfriend after she mysteriously disappears during their sunny vacation getaway. His three-year investigation draws the attention of her abductor, a seemingly mild-mannered professor who, in truth, harbors a diabolically clinical and calculating mind. When the kidnapper contacts the man and promises to reveal his lover's fate, The Vanishing unfolds with intense precision, culminating in a genuinely chilling finale that has unnerved audiences around the world.Cold-blooded and gripping in its intensity, THE VANISHING is a modern psycho-thriller in the icy tradition of Hitchcock and Stephen King. Two ordinary men, each driven by their obsessions, are destined to meet. One, a young husband, becomes trapped by his own morbid curiosity when his wife mysteriously disappears. For three years his insatiable desire to uncover the truth consumes him, his relationships, his peace of mind and finally his rationality. The other man also becomes trapped--by a chilling desire to test the boundaries of his own conscience. His grim obsession leads him to a young woman and eventually to her husband. From there, each man finds his answer, in a terrifying conclusion that will haunt you long after the movie

Good movie that raelly makes you feel for the characters. Interesting from the start, but may be too slow for people. 7/10--FrighT MasteR (UHM)
The script features some original ideas about obsession and the nature of the criminal mind, but leaps in time and ineffective acting bog it down. One thing I did like, though, was the ending: short and brutal. --Jack Witzig (ColdSpot)
The film has what, I assume, is supposed to be a shocking climax. If you're still awake by the time it rolls around, you may utter something along the lines of "huh," or perhaps a yawn. -- (Bloody-Disgusting.com)
