She was an ordinary housewife until her trip to Paris turned into an extraordinary adventure. International talents JoBeth Williams, Tom Conti and Giancarlo Giannini - plus brisk pacing and clever slapstick - fuel this tongue-in-cheek cloak-and-dagger adventure about dreams coming true. Cathy Palmer (Williams) is a neglected housewife whose only excitement in life comes from reading sizzling romantic thrillers by the renowned Rebecca Ryan. Entering a Rebecca Ryan writing contest, Cathy wins a trip to Paris, where she gets knocked on the head in an accident. When she awakes, she believes she is Rebecca Ryan, and begins living all the glamour, suspense and romance of her favorite authoress.
Tom Conti is engaging as the man who tries to convince her she's living a dream world and Giancarlo adds enough mystery to make it all very real indeed. This bright, whimsical, light-hearted story is for the romantic and dreamer in all of us.

JoBeth Williams plays an unfulfilled housewife who wins a trip to Paris after entering a short-story contest. Once there, she is hit by a car and wakes up believing she is the ingenious and brave heroine from her story. A series of misadventures leads her on a merry chase with fellow bumbler Tom Conti. The casting is a little dubious, but the ever adorable Conti gives this charm. It may rip off Romancing the Stone--without emulating that flick's witty dialogue or sexuality--but this appealing fluff remains a pleasant, if slight, diversion. --Rochelle O'Gorman
