Synopses for Vampire in Brooklyn (1995)
1.

Eddie Murphy teamed up with shockmeister Wes Craven to make this stale attempt at a horror-comedy. Murphy had the right idea, because the concept is intriguing: He plays a vampire from the Caribbean fulfilling a prophecy to rejoin his vampire queen, who turns out to be a Brooklyn cop (Angela Bassett) who is half-bloodsucker but doesn't understand the impulses being awakened in her. Bassett is a seductive presence and Murphy looks the part: sleek, inviting, and spooky. But Craven, perhaps the most overrated horror director working, can't handle comedy--at least not intentionally--and his idea of horror here is extravagant (and not particularly convincing) makeup. --Marshall Fine

2.Eddie Murphy is Maximillian, the last of a race of vampires from the Caribbean who travels to New York in search of Rita (Angela Bassett), an NYPD officer whom he considers to be the perfect woman to carry on his dying bloodline. Once he hits Gotham, Maximillian has a series of fish-out-of-water adventures, which include posing as a street preacher, finding a slum apartment that he magically turns elegant, and dropping plenty of one liners. When Maximillian finds Rita, he must compete for her affections with her partner Justice (Allen Payne), which he does with the help of his faithful and decomposing sidekick Julius (Kadeem Hardison). Wes Craven (SCREAM, NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET) directed this offbeat mix of comedy, horror, and romance, which could be seen as a genre flipside to Murphy's COMING TO AMERICA.

3.Witherspoon Maximillian is a member of an exclusive race that legend has called Nosferatu, the undead, the vampire. He knows no mercy and has no regret. He can transform himself in a thousand different ways. Max has ventureed to New York City in search of Rita Vender, an NYPD detective who is unaware of their unique blood bond. As Max and Julius, his hapless ghouls, attempt to transform Rita into Max's vampiress, her devoted NYPD partner Justice finds he has much at stake in protecting her from an age-old evil.
