Plot: When Yakuza boss Anjo mysteriously disappears, his right hand man Kakihara sets out to discover who is responsible. Kakihara is a brutal and sadistic weapon, and uses his detachment from social morality to his advantage, torturing and killing those he needs answers from. Meanwhile, in the shadowy streets, a bizarre individual named Jijii has been manipulating Ichi, an unbalanced killer in a superhero costume, for his own needs. When Kakihari learns of the urban legend of Ichi, he sets out to find him, hoping that he can deliver the pain he desires.Prolific director Takashi Miike (AUDITION) keeps finding new ways to test the boundaries of on-screen violence. This is one violent movie, nipples are sliced off, needles are shoved through various body parts, blood drips from the ceiling, men are sliced in two, faces splatter on walls, it goes on and on. It’s also full of characters fleshed out and doomed from the very first frame, there is a story here and it’s full of undertones and context. Or it could be taken as one, big, hilarious joke.--Sonny Fernandez (Diabolical-Dominion.com)
Another weird Miike flick. I haven't seen many of his films, but this is one of the better ones from what I have seen. Recommended for gore and Takashi Miike fans. 7/10-- (UHM)

All in all Miike has produced and incredible film in Ichi The Killer. It takes so many hideous asthetics and combines them with some pretty stylish and impressive ones that does not make you want to all together wince away in revulsion but, rather watch this film with fascination. --koroshiya1 (Bloody-Disgusting.com)
