Antonio Eduardo Favale (Southern Italy) | 02/09/2006 | Very good plot;almost unseen since then.
In the very general view of swashbuckler movies,I have still to remark the historical truth of the situational plot. Not only the french court seems to the edge of bankrupcy, but also the fierce opposition between christian and muslim forces in order to get in controll of the mediterranean area. Her husband/The rescator (the ransom-recruiter) is a Knight of Malta, the same old crusadean order that found the place where I was born and the port to relief real cases similar to those shown. The kidnapping of young beautiful girls was a common harsh traffic by then. All actors show a great sense of filling-in the assigned part. She is really beautiful, and really Italian still,I am proud of it (her mother was from Italy and she resembles her at all). The directors in that golden age made no politically-correct movies, showing instead,in the popular form of romantic and dramatic comedy, the real and dream-like reality of the early-modern days in Europe.A master-piece collection, for influence it has given to other French as well as Italian further production.Greaa soundtrack also.Compare it to "Zorro" with Banderas-Hopkins-Zeta Jones, and you will see its ancestor.
