Plot: Nominated for a Best Foreign Film Oscar in 1992, CLOSE TO EDEN is a comedy about a cross-cultural friendship between a Mongolian shepherd named Gombo and a Russian road builder named Sergei. Gombo has been living peacefully with his family living the way his ancestors have been for generations. When Sergei drives his truck into the local lake, Gombo helps him get his truck out, and accompanies him to the city where he's never been. His mission is to buy a television set, and some condoms, which his wife asks him for. A friendship develops and Gombo learns that progress in the modern world may not be all it's cracked up to be.
