Plot: A well-to-do couple in the Depression era find themselves in a tangled mess when they hire a young Harvard student to perform the societally taboo and hitherto unthinkable: serve as a surrogate father for their child. Their problem only deepens when they fail to take into account the propensity for meddling by a new priest and the siren-like ability of the wife to cause others to fall into passionate love with her. A morality play for the moribund sentimentalist.
