Charlton Heston stars as a hard-bitten captain making his last voyage in command of the U.S.S. Neptune, a nuclear submarine that is sunk in a collision with a Norwegian freighter. The only hope for the forty-one men trapped 1450 feet down is a pair of maverick inventors (David Carradine and Ned Beatty) racing to clear the blocked escape hatch with an experimental submersible. This exciting undersea adventure from director David Greene was made with the cooperation of the U.S. Navy, with many sequences filmed aboard the U.S.S. Cayuga and Pigeon. It also features Stacy Keach, Ronny Cox, Dorian Harewood, a pre-superman Christopher Reeve as one of the officers, and a score by Jerry Fielding.
