Plot: A young family move into a forboding New England mansion, unaware that it was once the gruesome residence of Dr. Freudstein, a dabbler in bizarre surgical practises. Soon Freudstein - now classic Fulci zombie - is up to his murderous old tricks again, seeking freshly severed limbs and organs to keep his corrupt, rotting flesh alive!

As past and present collide in a vortex of fear, the terrified family are forced to fight for their lives in the subterranean, gore-soaked charnel-house that is one of the many secrets of "the house by the cemetery"!

Dr. Norman Boyle (Paolo Malco), of the New York Historical Society, accepts a research assignment abandoned by a colleague who has committed suicide. external linkLike all Fulcis movies it takes a couple viewings to really appreciate it. The ending gives some amazing moments and there are plenty of eerie realizations.

external linkI personally think it's one of Lucio Fulci's better movies. Interesting story and good gore. Worth a check if you're a Fulci fan or if you just want a good rent. 6/10

external link...good opening sequence, the stylish but sparcely spaced gore scenes and a pretty suspenseful axe scene but it's just too boring and weakly plotted to work. Director Fulci shows some style but is defeated by the feeble script.

external linkIf the script had been more logical then what it was, this would have been a much better film. Still, at times this is a truly frightening horror film, despite its numerous flaws, and any fan of Italian horror should see it. Even if you?re not a fan of the ?Italians?, give it a try. You may be shocked! 3/5
